The Board of Directors of the Arab Iron and Steel Union, headed by Engineer Ahmed Ezz, approved, in its regular session in the Algerian capital on January 26, 2026, a plan aimed at representing the interests of the iron and steel industry at the Arab and international levels.

At the Arab level,

it was decided to hold four meetings annually bringing together the ministers of industry and trade - or both - in the countries that choose to do so, and among the member companies of the union. These meetings aim to enable the Union to present to ministers an integrated picture of the conditions of the steel industry at the international, regional and local levels, allowing Arab governments to possess sufficient information to take policies that support the legitimate interests of the Arab steel industry. These meetings are held in coordination between the companies and ministerial authorities in the host countries, provided that the holding of each meeting remains conditional on the approval of the member companies in that country.

At the international level,

the Union will work to strengthen and expand communication channels and build strategic partnerships with international organizations concerned with the iron and steel industry, to benefit from their expertise and active Arab participation in the international dialogue on the future of the industry, especially on issues of anti-dumping and carbon taxes. At the forefront of these institutions are: the World Steel Organization (Worldsteel), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the European Iron and Steel Industry Association (EUROFER), the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the Turkish Steel Producers Association (TCUD), and the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA).

This cooperation aims to enable the Arab steel industry to obtain reports and databases issued by these international bodies, and in return to make the data and information held by the Arab industry available to these international institutions.
