The local steel industry of hot-rolled steel coils and sheets in Morocco has seen damage from the influx of foreign products.

Therefore, a 25% final protection fee was charged for three years, reduced by 1% each year.

However, the measures faced disagreements from other local manufacturing industries as Morocco is not self-reliant in hot-rolled steel products and requires the import of some grades and specifications to feed the industrial sector.

Morocco imported 108,727 tons of hot-rolled steel products under the HS code 7208 in 2019 (+ 0.8%) year-on-year, according to ITC data.

Egypt is among the country's major trading partners in the supply of flat steel.
