China sets GDP growth target of 5.5%

China has set its GDP growth target for 2022 at around 5.5%. This was revealed by the Chinese Premier Li Keqiang while delivering the government workreport at the opening session of the fifth session of the thirteenth National People's Congress(NPC) in Beijing. Other key development goals expected this year include creating more than 11 million newjobs in urban areas, keeping the urban unemployment rate monitored at no more than 5.5 percent, and keeping the consumer price index, the main measure of inflation, at around 3 percent, grain production to be more than 650 million tonnes. Premier Li Keqiang said that his country is even targeting further improvement in theenvironment and would continue to reduce major pollutants, noting that the country shouldstrive to make progress while making economic stability a priority. The Chinese Premier said the main tasks for this year include achieving stablemacroeconomic performance, maintaining key economic indicators within the appropriaterange, maintaining the stability of operations of market entities and maintaining job securityby strengthening macro policies.
