The General Authority for Industrial Development at the Ministry of Trade and Industry in Egypt announced the launch of the requirements and controls booklet for establishing 6 projects to produce billets, sponge iron, and iron pellets, or expanding existing ones at the local level, in preparation for obtaining a production license. Engineer Mohamed Fadel Al-Zalat said that the local offering includes 6 production licenses for various iron and steel products with a total production capacity of up to 1.3 million tons of billets, 2.5 million tons of sponge iron, and 16 million tons of iron pellets. He added that the licenses are divided, so that 3 licenses will be offered locally for the production of billets (two licenses with a production capacity of 1.1 million tons annually each, and a license with a production capacity of 200 thousand tons annually) and a license to produce sponge iron with a production capacity of 2.5 million tons annually, in addition to two licenses to produce iron pellets with a production capacity of 8 million tons annually for each. The Chairman of the Authority indicated that companies that add production stages that increase integration rates will be granted discount rates from the value of the license in order to encourage greater integration in the various production stages and increase local manufacturing rates. Al-Zalat also explained that the requirements and controls brochures will be made available at the Authority’s headquarters to those who wish, from November 7 until November 18 of this year.
