Tata Steel completes 5 MT expansion project at Kalinganagar

Tata Steel has completed Phase II of its expansion project at Kalinganagar in Odisha, increasing the plant's crude steel capacity from 3 to 8 mln tons per annum. This brings the company's total steelmaking capacity in India to 26.1 mln tons per year. The upgraded Kalinganagar facility features advanced technologies focused on sustainability, efficiency, and future-ready manufacturing. Tata Steel plans to cater to high-growth sectors such as automotive, infrastructure, power, shipbuilding, and defence with advanced high-strength steels from the plant. At the heart of the expansion is the country's largest blast furnace, with a volume of 5,870 m3. It includes four top combustion stoves, a first in India, and two preheating stoves to enhance fuel efficiency and support eco-friendly steel production. Other major additions under Phase II include a pellet plant, coke plant, and cold rolling mill, all designed with cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices.
